Swinhoe Pheasant (Lophura Swinhoi)
Other names : Formosan pheasant, blue pheasant.

Sub sorts : no sub-sort exists.

Homeland : Middle Taiwan Mountains.

Description : Males look like Edward’s pheasant however these are a little bigger. There is a big white spot on upper part of its back; shoulders are chestnut color and wing covers are greenlike metallic black. Middle long feather on tail is white. Females are usually brown. They’ve got triangle spots with yellowish camel feather color.

Reproduction time : it starts in March and continues until middle of May.

Reproduction age : it is second year however; fowls of first year are usually prolific.

Annual egg number : 6 - 12.

Incubation period : Swinhoe pheasants are optimum ones for initiation of this hobby. However they cannot endure very hot and very cold temperatures. Swinhoe males may exhibit a nervous attitude against their attendants and other birds time to time. It is preferntial to have the ambient in cage well greened. They are fed with egg feed, wheat, oats, and corn; they may be reporduced numerously in cage ambient.
