Sclater Monal Pheasant (Lophophorus sclateri)

Other names : Crestless monal.

Sub sorts : There exist two sub-sorts known up to now, being L.S. Sclater and L.S. Orientalis.

Homeland : South East Tibet, South West China and North East Burma.

Description : Males have a short almost unclear comb. Crest is blueish green. Sides of neck are metallic reddish bronze. Remainder upper parts are metallic green, blue and black. Feature attracting most attention is the white back thigh extending toward wide brown colored band on the tail with white end. Females are much darker than other monals and they don’t have combs. Tail with white end is shorter; other parts are dark brown with dark brown thin stripes on it.

Reproduction time : during the months of spring.

Incubation period : it is rarely bred in cage ambient. It is not beleived that it may be present outside of China. An article published on Paul Johns Gazette states that 6 of them are being bred in reproduction center of Pekin in scope of the reproduction of animals of which generation is being exhausted.
