Brown Eared Pheasant (Crossoptilon mantchuricum)
Other names : Manchurian eared pheasant

Sub sorts : monotypical.

Homeland : forests of trees with cypress cone and plants dropping leaves in winter in North East China.

Description : This is a big pheasant. upper part of head is covered with velvet-like black feathers. Ears are white starting from bottom of chin extending backward. Face skin is red. Neck is black it has a violet-like brightness turning to brown toward bottom part of back and wings. Base of tail is silver gray. Tail feathers are dark brown. Prematured fowls have brown spots. Adult feathers come up at 5-month age. Males and females are similar but they can be distinguished by means of spurs. Males have bigger and rounded spurs. Spurs start to appear at 4-month age. Females are smaller.

Reproduction time : from end of April till June.

Reproduction age : second year.

Annual egg number : 5-8 eggs

Incubation period : This is a very good inciser pheasant. Plants in cops have not a long life. They really like greens. They are not very resistant to hot and humidity. Therefore cops with ground well drained and being shadowy should be established. They have the same features as blue and white eared pheasants.
