Copper Pheasant (Syrmaticus soemmeringii)

Homeland : forests of trees with cypress cone and mixed trees in Japan.

Description : male takes its name from metallic copperlike red feathers on top. Neck feathers are light chestnut color and there are big black stains at parts close to bottom and violet-like chestnut feathers are at sides. Chest feathers are pale chestnut color and form an embroidery appearance together with black stains and mat grayish light yellow edges. Thigh is light yellow and chestnut color with black stains and white edges. Females generally resemble elliot’s or hume females, however, mat bars on back and chest are very narrow and unclear. Top is dark brown and throat is light yellowish brown. Upper surfaces of wings, back and chest are covered with densely blackish brown stains.

Reproduction time : fiend of April till June.

Reproduction age : first year.

Annual egg number : 6-12 eggs

Incubation period : Males seem to behave highly obscene against females during reproduction season. To keep much number of shelters in cops, to place sufficient perches in order to provide female runs away from male or to cut the feathers of males may prevent male to disturb female. Such aggressive behaviors of male had caused many breeders to cease breeding this sort.
